Teri Wehn Damisch : Passages transatlantiques entre les arts
HaFI 023 est issu d’une première valorisation de l’œuvre cinématographique et télévisuelle de Teri Wehn Damisch, organisée en 2022 à la Galerie Colbert (Paris) et au Centre Pompidou, avec une rétrospective, un workshop universitaire et une exposition. Le livret contient quatre textes de Teri Wehn Damisch, évoquant la conception de ses films sur l’artiste Robert Morris, la photographe Gisèle Freund et l’anthropologue Françoise Héritier. Un essai d’Enrico Camporesi détaillant la genèse du film Sur la longueur d’ondes de Michael Snow (2001) et une étude du portrait dédié au chef décorateur Alexandre Trauner, signée par Christa Blümlinger, complètent cet ensemble.
Le livret met l’accent sur la pédagogie singulière des films documentaires de Teri Wehn Damisch, nés de ses rencontres avec des personnalités du monde de l’art et de la recherche transatlantique. La réalisatrice franco-américaine a commencé sa carrière comme productrice de télévision au début des années 1970. Manifestant dès le départ un profond engagement dans la transmission de l’esprit culturel, artistique et intellectuel de son temps, elle invente pour chaque portrait un dispositif particulier. Au fil des ans, la réalisatrice développe ainsi une approche plurielle, témoignant d’une grande diversité dans la mise en situation de la parole de l’autre.

HaFI 023 is the result of a first effort to enhance the visibility of Teri Wehn Damisch’s film and television work, organized in 2022 at the Galerie Colbert (Paris) and the Centre Pompidou through a retrospective, an academic workshop and an exhibition. The booklet contains four texts by Teri Wehn Damisch, attending to the conception of her films on artist Robert Morris, photographer Gisèle Freund and anthropologist Françoise Héritier. An essay by Enrico Camporesi examining the creative process behind her film On Snow’s Wavelength (2001) and a study of her portrait dedicated to set designer Alexandre Trauner, by Christa Blümlinger, complete the volume.
The booklet emphasizes the singular pedagogical approach of Teri Wehn Damisch’s documentary films, resulting from her encounters with personalities from the transatlantic world of art and research. The Franco-American director began her career as a television producer in the early 1970s. From the outset, she has been deeply committed to transmitting the cultural, artistic and intellectual spirit of her time, inventing a special setting for each portrait feature. Over the years, she has developed a multi-faceted approach, demonstrating a wide variety of ways to make other people’s words perform.
